STAY FAITHFUL, STAY CONNECTED, STAY COMMUNITY!

STUDY GROUP POSTPONED TO WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1ST, 10:30 am
This is NOT an April Fools’ Joke!

The Matthew study group will happen next week Wednesday because, OK-I’ll admit it, I haven’t kept up with my own reading/praying timetable!

Here are the instructions to prepare for the study group on Matthew 21:6-9 (Palm Sunday) and Matthew 26:14-27:66 (the Passion story).

TODAY (Thursday), read the Mathew scriptures.  Tomorrow (Friday), read them again and choose a specific passage that spoke to you or made you curious.  On Saturday, pray over the passage you chose (sit quietly, read each word slowly and then read it aloud, then pray over the passage).  On Sunday, read the Matthew scriptures again.  On Monday, pray over the passage again in the same way.  On Tuesday, pray over the passage again.  On Wednesday, at 10:00am, start figuring out the technology.  At 10:30, we meet.  NOTE: if you do not have a computer, you can use your phone to call in.

Frances Wong is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

FRIENDS:  this is YOUR column.  Send in announcements, joys, concerns, whatevers to the church.  Email:  ardisg@cchonolulu.org   Phone number: (808) 595-7541.  Mail: 2345 Nuuanu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96817.  Gwen or I will review your submissions and then include them in this PARTY LINE!  For starters, send in your selfies to share how you are doing with your home detention.

We primed the pump on Monday with selfies from your co-editors.  Here’s one from the Hayashi Family!

            Friends at CCH:

For the first time ever, our family watched on-line videos of Christian service messages.  On Sunday we watched a C4 church "This is Our Time" video and on Tuesday we watched a New Hope Oahu 3/22 message, starting from where Pastor Wayne Cordeiro appears about 39 minutes in.  We previously attended both churches.  The messages were warm and inspiring.
(We would much prefer to watch something on our own CCH website, but there wasn't anything current.  We understand the challenges involved, but if attendees would send in videos of songs, jokes, testimonies, current events at home, anecdotes, appropriate short stories, etc. and if these got posted somewhere, we'd certainly watch those first!)

Aloha and good job adding Party Line to the News Letter!  (We had fun taking the photo--the first one we all looked horrible, or should I say even worse?--maybe we should have submitted that one instead?)

Take care and God bless!   Ty

(Editor’s note:  Ty—send the first photo, too!!)

New Terms, Same Hope
By Frances Wong, Associate Pastor for Christian Education

We now easily say phrases that had no or little meaning to us just a couple of weeks ago—flattening the curve, social distancing, sheltering in place, COVID-19, pandemic, personal protective equipment (PPE), self-quarantine, self-isolate, N95 face masks.

We at Community Church of Honolulu treasure old terms that provide the same hope to us as they provided to the earliest listeners.

Psalm 27:13-14 (CEB)
I have sure faith that I will experience the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living! Hope in the Lord! Be strong! Let your heart take courage! Hope in the Lord!

Isaiah 41:10 (MSG)
‘You’re my servant, serving on my side.
I’ve picked you. I haven’t dropped you.’

Don’t panic. I’m with you.
There’s no need to fear for I’m your God.

I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you.
I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.

Romans 15:13 (NRSV)
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Even with physical separation and isolation, the community at Community Church remains hopeful and in community. We are grateful for the telephone, the US Postal Service, the internet, and each other. Think of creative ways to remain connected (how about a Zoom potluck).  Pray without ceasing. Keep your heart filled with God’s love.
