FROM PASTOR HOLLY’S DESK
Aloha CCH Ohana!
This Sunday is Mother's Day,
and I would like to take a moment during the service to honor the amazing women
in our lives who have helped us grow in God's love. Please consider sending a picture of a woman,
or women, in your lives that you would like to honor on this Mother's Day. I need to have the pictures no later than
Thursday morning. Please remember to
include their full name. You can send it
to my email: hollynorwick@gmail.com or to my phone: 808-371-4701, whichever is
easiest. Help me honor women of faith
this coming Sunday, Mother's day.
Also, this past Sunday was
communion Sunday. My family and I were
delighted to have all of you at our dinner table as we shared communion
together. Next month, I would love to be
able to share with one another YOUR communion table. Please consider taking a picture of your
communion elements or the place where you had communion or the people with whom
you had communion or a combination. I
would like to put together these pictures and use them for next month's
communion and share as many tables as possible.
Mahalo,
Pastor
Holly

few years ago. Mrs. Urabe was also survived
by a brother, two sisters, and their families.

at a later date.

IPT WEDNESDAY (INTENTIONAL PRAYER TIME) by Kathy Young
Our Lord has now made it
possible for us to truly practice "corporate prayer"!! If we
read an IPT message and pray on Wednesday mornings, we would effectively be
praying as a congregation...together!!
God,
our Father, we PRAY--
· that you continue
to bless each person in our CCH 'ohana with your loving care. Keep
everyone safe, oh Lord.
· for our dear
Brother-in-Christ, Ryan Urabe, wife Christine, children Hayley and Blake,
father Harlow, and the rest of their family over the sudden death of Ryan's
mother, Alice Urabe. Our Heavenly Father sometimes calls His angels home
unexpectedly, sparing them pain or illness. Being called home to God's
house quickly, however, is very hard on those left behind. We express our
deepest condolences and reach out with God's abiding love and our promises of
support to Ryan and his family.
· continually for
Suelyn Tune's family, for Ethel and Willie Chong's family, and for others who
are mourning the loss of loved ones. We remember them all in our
heartfelt prayers.
· for our
hard-working Associate Pastor Frances Wong. Guided and fueled by the Holy
Spirit, she creates this newsletter every single week!! First
experimenting with a variety of formats, Pastor Frances now creates this
"blog" (informal, regularly updated web page) to allow for smoother
e-"mailing". In addition, she handles almost all calls for
pastoral care, works closely with our precious Christian Ed community of young
families, and holds Bible Study sessions via Zoom!! Lord, please bless
the Reverend Frances Wong with continued wellness and strength.
· prayers of thanksgiving
for Angel Administrator Ardis Gomes. Even when faced with huge internet
challenges and slow technical assistance, Ardis demonstrated her
God-centeredness and the power of her faith to us all.
· to support and
applaud the multiple talents and hours of work that Reverend Dr. Holly Norwick
and Musical Director Hari Bayani weave into faith-building worship services via
YouTube. Help us "go out" beyond our homes, inviting
friends and family to visit CCH's website at cchonolulu.org.
Using the available links, anyone can worship our Lord at any time!!
· Intercessory
prayers for those in our CCH 'ohana and wider community, who are facing
financial hardships, anxiety, or loneliness. God bless us all with
enough to weather the current economic crisis. Help our state achieve a
rapid and safe recovery. Lord, we will never take your gifts of financial
security and wellness for granted again!!
· continued prayers
for our beloved Sister-in-Christ and wellspring of God's love, 104 year-old Sau
Chun Wong Chun. God, fill her days with peace, joy, endless love, and
happy memories of a lifetime well lived. Our prayers also for daughter
Yen, son-in-law Dickie, and Sau Chun's loving family, including all her
caregivers.
· for the many in
need of our prayers and those in our hearts.
ANNOUNCING TWO
NEW ZOOM STUDY GROUPS WITH PASTOR FRANCES
HOW TO READ
THE BIBLE
Wednesday, 5/13th
to Wednesday, July 15th, at 10:00am to 11:15am.
This course will be based on
videos from the Bible Project. We will
not be doing any “deep dives” into specific books or passages. We will explore topics such as:
"How to
Read the Bible: What is the Bible?
This is
episode 1 of an ongoing series that explores the origins, content, and purpose
of the Bible. Here you'll be introduced to a condensed history of how the Bible
came into existence, and the different forms of the Bible in the Catholic,
Orthodox, and Protestant Christian traditions."
"How to
Read the Bible: Character
Most of
us think of characters in Bible as either sinners or saints, good or bad. At
least that’s how Bible stories are presented to children. In this video, we’ll
explore the ways biblical authors present characters as more complex and
morally compromised than we usually imagine."
Join this exploration by
clicking on this link every Wednesday at 10:00am.
THE PRACTICE
OF PRAYER
From Wednesday, 5/13th
to Wednesday, 6/17th, at 11:30am to 12:00pm.
We will explore 3 prayer
practices: centering prayer, “walking” the labyrinth, and Psalm 23. This is more of a practice group rather than
a study group. We will support each
other in our do-ing.
Join by clicking this link
every Wednesday at 11:30am.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Our favorite Jedi Master,
Principal Justin Mew, was asked by the Department of Education to tape an
appreciation message to the teachers and staff of our schools. Principal Mew wrote, directed, and produced
this video (he even fixed and touched up the school's podium!) and Micah filmed
and edited. Enjoy!
